OzSecCon 2018 Conference Wrap-Up

by | Conferences, Challenges, Tamper Evident

OzSecCon 2018 was the second year of OzSecCon, but last year it was called OzLockCon. It is a physical security conference held in Melbourne.

Me and Boo did an awesome talk about tamper evident bypasses including a cool video of a tamper evident challenge dad made for us. It’s the first time we have talked at a conference. Everyone seemed to like our talk.

We were VIP’s because we were doing a talk!

There were lots of other interesting talks like Attacus facial recognition talk and my friend Alex’s cognitive biases talk. Here we are with Alex.

There was one I really wanted to see called Project Walrus but i missed it as we had gone to start the tamper evident challenge. After Topaz finished the starting ceremony we watch a really cool talk by Jek. Her job is to break into buildings which I thought was really cool. The funniest bit was when she told us she puts on a fake tummy to look like a pregnant woman ????????

There were a lot of competitions on like lock picking and tamper evident bypassing. We went in the tamper evident comp and came third out of seventy adults, and a few other kids.

I also made a couple of keys in the key impressioning workshop.

At the closing ceremony we got a prize for coming third. Its a Google Chromecast, but not really sure what it does. At the end we gave Topaz a hug and went to the after party. I thought the after party would be a big party but it was just adults talking about their jobs so after an hour we went back to the hotel. It was a great two days in Melbourne.

At OzSecCon 2018 we did a talk on tamper evident bypasses which meant we got to go in the VIP room and got special speaker badges ????

We saw some really cool talks like Attacus who was talking about facial recognition and Alex who was talking about human biases. I was also interested in a talk about Jek’s job where she breaks into buildings.

We went in the tamper evident competition and came 3rd and won a prize!

I made a few keys in the key impressioning workshop and one of them even worked!!! I also taught my friend Liam how to do this as well.

I can’t wait for the next conference!

Mos aka MrOldSkinny, loves to hack things together whether it be hardware, software or a combination of both! When he isn’t doing crazy hacks you will find him picking locks, tampering with tamper-proof devices, and finding weaknesses in security controls. All the cybers will be his!
