BSides Canberra 2018 Conference Wrap-Up

by | Conferences

BSides Canberra is a hacking and locksport conference. At BSides this year there was locksport, CTF, hardware hacking village and packet hacking village. I watched a few talks with my family over the two days. My favourite talk was “Operation Luigi: How i hacked my friend without her noticing” by my friend Alex. The other ones I watched were great but I understand Operation Luigi the most.

After each day there was an after party at the conference but because of mine and Boo’s age we couldn’t go 🙁 Can’t wait till we are older.

In the locksport area, I picked about 10 locks but I broke my city rake from my Sparrows Wizwazzle Pro set in one of them and I was very sad 🙁

Boo and I have a Hacker Passport where each conference we go to we get a stamp marked of where we have been. We have gone to four conferences so far:

and have six stamps and one sticker in our passports. Bull hand made the stamp this year!!!

All my friends were there like Liam, Alex, Topaz and Dook and heaps of others. Alex gave me magic cards. Alex is the BEST at magic tricks.

I spent lots of time at the tamper evident and lock picking village. I helped lots of people, like my new friend Michael, because he hadn’t picked hand cuffs before so I showed him how to pick hand cuffs properly. Michael also wanted to learn tamper evident bypasses as well so I helped him and also helped a lot of other people.

Can’t wait for the next con which will be OzSecCon 2018 where Boo and I will be presenting!!!

BSides was a great conference and I really enjoyed it. The t-shirts looked awesome and so did the badges.

We didn’t have time to build the badge at the conference so we will be putting it together and learning to solder in the next few days 🙂

The conference had lots of interesting talks, like Operation Luigi by my friend Alex. I also liked experimenting with the tamper evident seals and wristbands. I also helped a lot of people get started with tamper evident bypasses that hadn’t tried before.

There was lockpicking competition and also a CTF and hardware hacking.

Connor and I both entered the lock competition. Our best times picking a lock were 4.44 seconds for me and 8.04 seconds for Connor, but don’t tell him I told you! 😉

Mos aka MrOldSkinny, loves to hack things together whether it be hardware, software or a combination of both! When he isn’t doing crazy hacks you will find him picking locks, tampering with tamper-proof devices, and finding weaknesses in security controls. All the cybers will be his!
